Great little press pot. Especially on those mornings when you don't want or need a full pot. Does 1-2 cups/mugs quickly.
This is the third coffee press I bought within the last year, and I definitely like this one the best. Unlike the others, it is attractive to display on my shelf when I am not using it, and it is easy to pour the coffee without spillage. I would imagine that it would hold water for two cups of coffee, though I only used it to make one cup at a time. I would recommend the Bodum New Kenya 17-ounce coffee press.
After 4 minutes, push the plunger down, pour the coffee into your favorite mug, and enjoy. The grounds should be like sand, not powder. I was surprised to find out that coffee made in this is smoother than coffee made in a regular coffeemaker. The filter keeps the grounds in the carafe, and there's even a grate that the coffee goes through when you pour it to catch any stray grounds that might try to escape. You put them in the carafe, pour hot, almost (but not quite) boiling water over them, put on the lid and wait 4 minutes. If you made the grounds a little too coarse, you might need to push in the plunger and pull it back up to stir them up a little. And this is dishwasher safe. How awesome is that.
The mouth is very large which is great for dumping the coffee in without making a mess. I have been using it for over a month and it has worked flawlessly. Actually, I don't know what benefit could be had by buying a more expensive one. This can be used as a fill gauge so you can get the correct amount of water in there every time.
This inexpensive one performs just as well and is built very well. This is a fantastic little coffee press for the price. A plus over my other unit. Also, you should have a conical burr grinder for a French press. I don't wash it by hand but put it in the dishwasher every day.
Another nice thing is there is text along the glass. Blade grinders can't produce the consistent grind necessary for this device. I own 2 presses and the other one is stainless steel and costs about $60. So, save your money and buy this one. No problems.
The plastic shroud does a good job of protecting the glass and I have had no reason to ever separate the two. It's a steal and there is no reason to pay more. Enjoy.
The part I really do not appreciate is the clean up, although this would be true of any French Press. This is my first French Press styled coffee pot. I have to scoop the grounds into the trash using a spoon, then rinse the pot and my mug out in the sink in the rest room. I am using it at work since I have hot bottled water available and am reluctant to use something with a hot plate. The press works very well and gives me a travel mug + of delicious coffee. I am getting used to it. I have noted other's issues with breakage and am careful, but the plastic holder seems to provide good protection.
